Much excitement and awareness are currently taking place as the chase for the Liberia Football Association (LFA) premiership draws to an end.
The race for the title is currently between LPRC OIlers, Mighty Barrolle and the team of the moment in term of pulling surprises in performance, youthful Barrack Young Controller (BYC). The kids increased their chances of clinching the top flight championship for the first time with a 2-1 thrashing of sensational LPRC Oilers at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia yesterday, Thursday, September 10, 2009 before hundreds of diehard Liberian football fans.
Oilers Captain of the day, Solomon Wesseh rattled the net for his side in the 27th minute of the decisive encounter.
BYC mounted pressure for the equalizer, but Gabriel Johns’ men, being led in defense by Bill “Janjay” Paytoe, the little Teah Dennis and others maintained the lead as the first stanza ended in the gold and black outfit’s favor.
Back from recess, BYC, under the tutelage of tactically gifted coach Abraham Sese continued the chase to level the score, but it was Oilers’ experienced defense that still showed great form to extend the lead at the top of the 18 teams’ LFA premiership table.
At a certain point in the match BYC needed urgency. Coach Sese introduced master dribbler, pathfinder and the defenders’ nightmare Samuel G. Thompson, whose appearance created more pressure on the Oilers back four.
His master performance paid off well in the 76th minute when skillful Captain Jacob Goe rattled the net for the equalizer through a terrific connection from the middle of the park.
The lad dribbled three Oilers’ defenders at the far right of the park before placing the ball behind the rushing LPRC Oilers’ goaltender Saylee Swen.
Four minutes later, with Oilers now seemingly in complete disarray, the lads found the match winner from a fantastic header from defense hero, Myres Gairlo in the 80th minute to end the match 2-1 in Sekou Konneth boys’ favor.
After the match, BYC Captain Jacob Goe, who has been nominated alongside Mighty Barrolle defender, Sam Peters and Black Star midfielder Sengbeh Kennedy for the player of the week said he was excited with the vital win over title contender LPRC Oilers and hopes his side continues such superb performance against UMC Roots next week.
The vital win over Oilers secured 2nd spot for BYC with 57 points from 29 matches, while Oilers remains at pole position with 60 points from 29 matches and Mighty Barrolle at 3rd spot with 55 points from 28 matches.
The league continues over the weekend with more exciting matches.
