A.K. Dus, Saki asked me to respond to your comment since he is having trouble responding. This is what Saki says, "To address the second comment, I stayed ten days in the city of Freetown, and I enjoyed the environment because the people of Sierra Leone are not like strangers; they are friendly; abd they were always willing to help me whenever I got lost. The lessons I learned from my short stay there have influenced my plan to return sometime in March. I frankly did not know much about the city's condition before, but it has a huge potential to be counted as one of the beautiful cities in Africa."

Shelby, Saki was having trouble posting this comment so he asked me to respond to you. "With regards to smoking in Freetown, I heard many saying that the war may have been the immediate cause of so many people resulting into smoking. Others equally told me that smoking has been an age-old problem in Sierra Leone as a whole and not only Freetown. But considering the difference, Monrovia was equally at war, but not many smoke. I personally believe that peer influence and moreover the uncontrolled rate of opium and other cigarette products on the market. Public awareness is being made everyday, but I do not think smokers in Freetown believe in the dangers of smoking. Monrovia is a much better environment for nonsmokers than Freetown."

Your story is a remarkable contrast from what people normally report back from Freetown on their first visit. I really enjoyed your article and hope the country will continue to improve as time goes on. Thanks for enlightening other readers who may be considering to travel to our beloved country. Well done.

Great piece Saki! I also found it interesting that so many people smoked in Freetown, while almost no one smokes in Monrovia. What do you think explains this difference?
