A group calling itself the “Concerned Youth of Ganta for Reconstruction and Development” has condemned the recent destruction of life and property in Lofa County by those it calls hooligans.

The group in a release said, the destruction of religion edifices and symbols has the propensity to undermine national security and should be condemned by all peace loving Liberians.

According to the group, which has a branch in Monrovia, the recent violence in Lofa County indicates that the peace in Liberia is still fragile and could easily be undermined.
They want the government to take drastic and appropriate actions both in the Lofa violence and the land conflicts in Nimba County.

They also called on Liberians to strengthen democracy in Liberia which is the only form of government that protects the rights of all citizens.

Meanwhile, the Concerned Youth of Ganta for Reconstruction and Development has extended its condolences to families of those killed in the violence in Lofa County.

In another development a local Organization, Youth Explore Solution, is calling on the government and its partners, to organize a peace and unity conference to amicably resolve the crisis in Lofa County. The Organization’s Operation Director, Amos Lavala, said he believed that such conference will help resolve differences amongst the people of the county.

Mr. Lavala also wants the government to handle the recent situation in Voinjama with care and to prosecute the perpetrators in line with the law. He urged the government to put into place measures to serve as a deterrent for would-be trouble makers not for only Lofa County but across the country.

Lofa County recently struck by religious violence leaving lives and property destroyed. The violent incident reportedly started after a girl named Korpo Kamara of the Lorma and Mandingo tribes was found dead in her uniform after being missing for a few days.

It was reported by the United Nations Mission in Liberia Wednesday that at lease four persons died in the incident and several properties destroyed as a result of the crisis.
